Just to be clear…

A reader has just informed me that an article in the just-released March issue of Ottawa Life Magazine says I am now working to ensure Maher Arar gets “a proper apology” from Canadian officials. Of course, Prime Minister Harper formally apologized to Mr. Arar in a letter he read on national television on January 26, 2007. What I, and several human rights and civil liberties organizations are working for now, is an official apology for three other Canadians whose cases were examined by the Iacobucci Inquiry, which determined that just like in the case of Mr. Arar, the actions of Canadian officials contributed to their overseas detention and torture. Those men, of course, are Ahmad El Maati, Abdullah Almalki and Muayyed Nureddin. That error aside, I am, of course, honoured to be profiled in the magazine!
